REVIEW: Maxfactor Marilyn Monroe collection – Ruby Red

If I had to take a stock take of my makeup collection…I’m prettyyy sure red lipsticks would win, hands down. They’re such a staple, and come in endless shades and tones – and I’m always on the hunt for the next great red!

So when I was asked if I’d like to review a lipstick from the MaxFactor Marilyn collection, I leapt at the opportunity. I’ve tried the Lipfinity lipsticks (which I reviewed here) and I LOVE the Lipfinity liquid lipsticks, so I had high hopes for this one.

Maxfactor-Marilyn-1Needless to say, being MaxFactor, it didn’t disappoint. The lipstick comes in sturdy packaging, and the first thing you notice when you open it is the smell – I don’t think I’ve ever had any makeup product with this scent, it smells like cola bottle sweets to me! Which happen to be my favourite gummy sweet…so it’s all good.

The shade I picked was Ruby Red, simply because it’s the most neutral shade in the range, and a classic red. The range consists of 4 reds, with more warm and cool toned lipsticks. I normally reach for cool toned lipsticks, but opted for the most neutral one to try out the range. The full range consists of these shades (click here to see the shades on the MaxFactor website):

  • “Marilyn Berry Red for cool tones
  • Marilyn Sunset Red for warm tones
  • Marilyn Cabernet Red for darker tones
  • Marilyn Ruby Red for the iconic red.”

The lipstick is beautifully creamy, with a satin finish that looks and feels luxurious. I wore it without lipliner, and while it didn’t bleed heavily, I did notice some slight bleeding – nothing a lipliner couldn’t fix!

With regards to longevity, I was pleasantly surprised to see that it held up really well through eating and drinking. I’m used to satin finish lipsticks wearing off more quickly than my beloved mattes, but this stood up to the test brilliantly. It did eventually wear off slightly in the center of my lips, but I fixed it by simply rubbing my lips together slightly.

I’m thinking about picking up Berry Red from this range, as I love my cool toned red lipsticks and I really enjoyed using this one! If you’d like to see more about these MaxFactor lipsticks, you should head over to their Facebook page here.
